Born in Guadalajara, Mexico. Lived in Mexico City until age 13, when his family emigrated to the United States. Grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area where he attended Chabot community college. There he switched from a Psychology major to Art with an emphasis in Photography. Transferred to the San Francisco Art Institute where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1997.

He moved to Seattle, WA in 1999 where he still resides.

His fascination with all aspects of image making has led him to explore the medium in myriad ways, everything from weddings to rock shows and traditional portraits to highly manipulated darkroom work based on conceptual ideas.

The aim in Carlos Melgoza's work is to capture that split second when the magic of life is most apparent. The images are remainders of where we have been and where we are going, they are food for the mind and spirit, long after the moment that gave birth to them has passed.
